Navi Mumbai: On the morning of India’s 66th Independence Day, there was a fervour of patriotism in the minds of every GSTian who had assembled in the college quadrangle.

The tricolour adorned every corner of the campus, while every wall was decorated with sketches depicting courage and sacrifice of national heroes. The festivities began with hoisting of the Tricolour by Principal Dr. Alka Mahajan, followed by recital of the National Anthem by the GST family. The recital appeared even more poetic and melodious as it was filled with love and respect for the country.

There was an inspiring performance by the music club of GST on songs ‘Satyagraha’ and ‘Zinda’. GST’s very own Drama Club along with the NSS volunteers put up a skit, written by Yash Sharma and Akhilesh Shenai, which instilled a thought in the audience’s mind that how powerful today’s youth could prove in fostering India’s development.

A felicitation programme for subject toppers of all branches formed a part of this celebration. There was a zealous dance performance showing the cultural diversity of India. A documentary, edited by Sunil Chokalingam and narrated by Vishal Vinod, as a tribute to the unsung heroes of Kargil war, moved audience to tears.

Vinay Hegde opined on today’s India with a heartwarming speech.  An inspiring play on life of Shivaji Maharaj and his well-deserved epithet of ‘the people’s king’ was enacted by students of PPT department.
The audience was left spellbound after a rendition by Twin Paradox, a musical brainchild of GSTians, including ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ and ‘Yeh Jo Des hai Tera’. One would definitely fall short of words to describe the patriotic spirit that this event propelled in engineering minds at GST.

Jai Hind!
