Society of Automotive Engineers in SIES GST organized their first event on Advanced IC Engine Technology on the 14th and 15th of September, 2013. Two experienced speakers– Mr. Hitesh Choudhary and Mr. Anand Subramanian, from EXPERTSHUB organization conducted the workshop with over a hundred students in the audience. The speakers were amazed to see that a large number of first year students were attending, so for their benefit, they delved into the basics making sure that every concept was absolutely clear to each and every student. Each and every doubt was attended and some doubts were cleared with the help of videos. The presentations were also assisted by informative videos. The topics which were covered included evolution of engines, technologies related to IC engines, working of engines and its various components. The various parts of an engine were displayed and their functions were explained. It was a rare case where students got to see each part individually.

The most interesting section was the case study on DIESELMAX, a car made with two diesel engines, which has broken the land speed record. It was interesting to know the various modifications made in engines to suit as per the requirements of the vehicle. The session were very interactive, engaging, and extremely informative. There were case studies on CRD-i and DTS-i technology and virtual simulation tools used in the industry.

The last session on the second day was dedicated to a group activity wherein students were asked to specify and design an engine as per the way it would be used. For example, engines for a racing car, bike, tractor, ship, generator, etc. Students received inputs and feedback on their ideas and everyone’s knowledge of the subject increased manifold. The workshop was a great boost to the knowledge of the students with them wishing for more such workshops.
