Navi Mumbai: Engineer’s Day, commemorating the birthday of legendary engineer
Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, was celebrated with great pomp on the 16th of
September, 2013 at SIESGST.
The E-day exhibition began at 10 a.m. with about 24 zealous teams
ready with their exhibits. The exhibits ranged from ‘bots’ operated on various
principles to vehicles like Hovercrafts, not to forget the displays put up by
students of Biotech, PPT and Mechanical departments. The exhibits in robotics
section included ‘Wireless Gesture-controlled Robot’, ‘Pick-n-place robot’,
‘Fire-extinguishing bot’, the Arduino-bot ‘Obstacle-detector using IR sensors’,
Microcore BEAM Walker, ‘Robo- tank’ working on principle of Electromagnetic
induction, and many exciting projects. The mechanical section boasted of
‘Hydraulic jack and cranes’ made using syringes, ‘Pressure-operated truck
model’, ‘Four-stroke IC engine model’, ‘Hydraulic disk brakes’, etc. Two or
more kinds of Hovercrafts were also on display, including the radio-controlled
type and the one using a vacuum cleaner. ‘The IR multi-channel controller’ was
one of the well-conceptualized R&D projects of the exhibition.
The biotechnology department-related exhibits included biodiesel
and soap from vegetable oil; Ganesh idols made of paper pulp and cultured
bioluminescence micro-organisms. A packaging machine ‘Horizontal Form Fill Seal
Machine’ was the solo exhibit by PPT students. Most of these exhibits were
created from waste materials.
The exhibition was attended by GSTians in huge numbers and earned
the appreciation of staff members as well. On the whole, Engineers day at SIES
GST turned out to be a very educative and enthusiasm-filled affair.
