Navi Mumbai: The first version of Gravitas,
the annual intra-collegiate festival of the Literary Club of SIESGST, comprised
of eight events pertaining to word power and writing proficiency, spread over a
span of two days. Of these, Quizolution, a non-technical quiz event, saw
participation in huge numbers.
On 20th September 2013, by around 3
p.m., classroom 401 was filled with 22 ‘bright-eyed and bushy-tailed’ contesting
teams. As the clock ticked 15:00, the preliminary round of the quiz began. This
was pen-on-paper quiz consisting of 20 objective questions on current affairs,
sports, history and literature to name a few. Twelve top-scorers of this round
moved onto the next round. In the second round ‘Leader round’ , 6 general
knowledge questions along with their answers in jumbled form were put forward,
the teams had to rearrange words and find the answers to these questions. Apart
from these, there were 4 questions with picture clues which were to be
answered. The top five teams went to the semi-finals wherein they got to choose
amongst five subjects- namely Mythology and civilizations, Books and authors, Awards
and prizes, Inventions and discoveries and Days and events-and they were
subjected to rapid-fire questions based on the theme chosen. By the end of this
round, two deserving teams became the finalists of the quiz. The final round
consisted of ‘tic-tac-toe’ wherein the top two teams had to acquire a
tic-tac-toe by answering questions related to various blocks in the grid.
Third
year students, Varsha Bondada and Raghuram Bachu, managed to secure the first
position by acquiring 4 blocks and a tic-tac-toe , while first year students, Tushar
Pande and Rohit Narasimhan, became the runners-up of the contest. At the end of
the day, Quizolution became synonymous with a successful event.
