Haripriya Iyer | Republic Day
Navi Mumbai: 26th January observes the Indian Republic Day, and the students of SIES Graduate School of Technology didn't leave any stone unturned to commemorate the 66th Republic Day of India.
On the stroke of eight, all the students, faculty members and staff accommodated the main college quadrangle, and the celebration began with flag hoisting done by Mr. Tagalpallewar sir, followed by singing of the nation anthem. He concluded the morning flag hoisting by a warm speech and inauguration of our college’s Printing and Packaging section’s first newsletter.
The programme then consisted of a skit performance by the college drama group Aarambh relating to the Republic Day and its sheer negligence in the society. This was followed by singing of patriotic songs by a few other students.
Then there was a thought provoking speech by Diptesh Pawa, who enlightened us all by the importance of Republic Day and the need for it.
The speech was followed by another skit performed by the students based on the failure of the constitutional values in India these days, which was well received by the audience.
Following the skit came a mesmerizing dance by the students stressing on unity and brotherhood.
The programme then ended with a brainstorming round of debate named Your Opinion on national issues like diplomacy vs. armed forces, have news channels turned into entertainment channels, has democracy succeeded as a form of government etc. The debate was enticing and the judges and audience had a great time sitting through it.
All in all, the Republic Day was celebrated in the same zeal, as it were the first Republic Day of India.
