Innovations '14

“Innovation and Entrepreneurship go hand in hand, if a perfect business plan does not supplement the innovation, no or very little profit can be fetched from it.”

Innovations '14 is a national level project competition, which provides a platform for young and innovative minds to showcase their talent to the industry organized by CSI Student branch of SIES Graduate School of Technology in association with Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) of SIES Graduate School of Technology. This noble venture was initiated in 2013.

The idea behind this event is to give young minds across the country an opportunity to showcase their talent and learn to convert their prototype into a finished product.

The event witnessed the presence of dignitaries like:
·     Dr. Anjali Parisnis, Ph.D. (Genetic Engineering) and Associate Director-The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI-Western Regional Centre) as the Guest of Honour.

·     Mr. Saurabh Sonawala, B.Tech (IIT), MS (University of Washington) and Director of Hinditron as the Chief Guest.

·     Mr. Ajay Gupta for the valedictory function.

·     Mr. Jayaraman Iyer, CEO, SIES Organization.

The event was inaugurated by the customary lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. In the ceremony, the souvenir was unveiled by hand of the Chief Guest Mr. Sonawala.
The relationship between innovation and entrepreneurship was clearly pointed out by Mr. Sonawala in his inaugural speech while Dr. Parisnis mentioned the importance of having sustainability in every innovative idea. Later, Mr. Jayaraman Iyer enlightened the audience with the “true” meaning of INNOVATIONS referring to its Sanskrit translation and the importance of an inaugural ceremony. Prof. Tagalpallewar, Dean Academics, SIES GST shared his past experience and spoke about the history of SIES GST in his speech. Prof. Bannore, HOD, CE Dept. of SIES GST appreciated the efforts put in by the Innovations team and to gave a brief idea about the CSI student branch. Tushar Mohandas, Chairman, CSI SIES GST Student Branch, briefed about Innovations 2014 and activities carried out by CSI-SIESGST.

The event showcased projects of four different disciplines-
·         Electronics and Telecommunications/Electronics/Electrical Engineering
·         Mechanical Engineering
·         Computer Engineering
·         Information Technology

The judges for Innovations 2014 were:
1.)    Electronics and Telecommunication/Mechanical
·         Mr. Dnyaneshwar Kamble
·         Mr. M. Balaji
            2.)    Computer Engineering/Information Technology               
·         Mr. Sharad Shrivastava
·         Mr. Vijay Sharma
·         Mr. Azhar Khan

 A total of 29 abstracts were shortlisted out of the numerous entries that were received, amongst which 30 of them were short listed. Out of these, 12 were under Comps/IT and 15 were under EXTC/Mechanical. The event took place concurrently in two venues:

·         The Electronics and Telecommunications projects and Mechanical projects had their technical paper presentation in the SIESCOM's auditorium and the demonstrations were held in the main Quadrangle adjacent to it.

·         The Computer Engineering and Information Technology had their technical paper presentations and demonstrations in the School of Packaging auditorium.

 After the presentation and demonstration of the projects, the valedictory ceremony, presided by Mr. Ajay Gupta, was held. The valedictory ceremony was followed by the prize distribution.
The teams that won the prizes were:
1.)    Electronics and Telecommunication/Mechanical
·         1st prize to Glove Based Gesture Control by Sharath Nair and Viswanathan S from SIES GST, Nerul, Navi Mumbai.
·         2nd prize to Smart Mobile Transportation by Yatendra Bhargava, Lokesh Vasvani and Dheeraj Bhargava from MAIET, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

2.)    Computer Engineering/Information Technology
·         1st prize to QR Magic Box by Komal Patil and Salman Dhaniwal from VESIT, Chembur, Mumbai.
·         2nd prize to NFC based ticketing system by Chinmay Ladage,Suhas M.R and Akhil Nair as well as  Hands free voice recognition by Chetna Prabhu, Soumya Sunder and Chitra Salian both from  SIESGST, Nerul, Navi Mumbai.

The event concluded with the prize distribution and the distribution of the participation certificates.
