Navi Mumbai: On the 3rd of September, 2014 the NSS volunteers of SIES
Graduate School of Technology organized a blood donation camp in the campus
itself, in collaboration with Sion hospital. The publicity of the event started
one week prior. The significance of this event reached a large amount of people
when the students created the awareness not only in the campus, but also in the
nearby residential areas and shops. Many posters with appealing quotations
which readily defined the purpose of blood donation were hung in and around the
campus.
At sharp 8.00, the NSS volunteers were present in the
college. Several groups were made in which each volunteer was assigned two
hours of duty for the day. The SIES GST Museum was the desired venue. The
donation drive began with the Principal, Dr. Alka Mahajan to be the first one
to donate.
By 2.30, many donors including the parents, teaching and
non-teaching staff voluntarily came forward and donated blood. The NSS unit was
astounded seeing majority of students also contributing for the noble cause.
Every NSS volunteer made sure that the event goes on evenly without any
blunder. Towards the end of the day, NSS representative Ameya Kale
congratulated everyone for putting in efforts and making this event a massive
success. The aphorism for which the NSS is known i.e. not me but you was
evidently succeeded when 218 units, an estimate of 654 lives were saved by the
organization.
