Navi Mumbai: EXSEQUOR is
an intra-collegiate embedded systems contest organised by Technocrats SIESGST.
The competition was conceptualised with the sole objective to train
participants in embedded systems and to strengthen their subject knowledge so
as to enable them to compete in
inter-collegiate robotics competitions like e-yantra, ni-yantra etc.
An orientation workshop was conducted
at 3:30 pm on February 7th, 2014 to familiarise the participants with
‘Firebird V’ robot and various aspects related to its programming. Around 50
students accommodated themselves in GST’s Lab 7 eager to know more about this
autonomous, sensors-enabled robot. The workshop began with a presentation by
Sharath Nair and Neethi Nair, who had represented SIESGST at E-yantra, a
robotics competition held at IIT Bombay, as finalists. The presentation covered
a brief introduction of the various components of Firebird V and direction
control and applications of the same. Following this, the students were taught
programming procedure for the robot using Embedded C language. Softwares like
AVR Studio and AVR Boot-loader were used for this purpose. The volunteers
offered their assistance to the participants at every step of this process. At
the end of the workshop, the students appeared for a test based on the
presentation, the results of which will decide their future in the competition.
All in all, the orientation workshop
proved to be a successful one, in terms of the subject content and hands-on experience
that it had to offer to its participants.
