Navi Mumbai: SIES Graduate School of Technology organized its annual inter collegiate technical and cultural festival on February 13, 14 and 15, 2014. The sports festival, Lakshya, was held between January 12th and February 10th, 2014. This year, Tatva Moksh Lakshya was organized on a grand scale and over 30 days of festivities made for a really memorable affair.
On March 13th , the honorable dignitaries at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Rajendra Kherdekar-General manager for consumer sales with Indian oil, Mr. R Jayaraman Iyer-CEO of South Indian Education Society and Mr. S V Vishwanathan - member of managing council of SIES, flagged off the festival with their inspiring presence and thought provoking words. This brought about an unprecedented vitality which was sustained over the next 3 days as students participated with great enthusiasm in a plethora of technical and cultural events. The theme for this year’s festival was ‘Fiction’ and the college was decorated with life size figures, posters and 3D replicas of many fictional characters of movies and novels. The Robotics events have been SIES GST’s star attraction over the years and this year was no different. Aqua Bot and Robo F1 were one of the highlights this year. Some of the other events were Robo Soccer, Robo Hurdles, Robo Sumo, Robo Maze, etc. A special mention must go to the organizers of our curtain-raiser ‘Dream run’ which was a 6km marathon organized for supporting a social cause through an NGO, ‘Forum for Autism’. More than 150 people participated in it and an amount to the tune of Rs.25000 was collected. Two robotic events, Robo F1 and Robo Soccer were organized at Center One mall in Vashi on 8th February for the general public to try their hands at controlling robots. Kids and Adults both indulged in some entertaining games as well. The response was overwhelming with over 300 people participating in these events.
The sports festival did manage to get some serious adrenaline-rush with the Cage Football event that SIES GST introduced in Navi Mumbai. Inter Cricket Tournament which was a month long affair, saw a record participation of 32 teams and became the biggest inter college tournament in Mumbai. This was followed by the ‘11on11’ football tournament played on Sacred Hearts Ground and Badminton at NMSA, Vashi. The cultural events like Singing, Karaoke, Solo Dance, Group Dance, B Buoying, Fashion Show and the amateur rock band competition, ‘Am-Rock’ were hugely successful. Among the firsts this time, were DJ Wars, Radium Cricket and Cross Fit which were received immensely. The second edition of GST Gazette, college’s official newsletter was also launched through this platform.
The Fashion Show titled ‘ENVY’ which was held on first day was graced by eminent celebrities like Purab Kohli and Hazel Keech. Beat Struck and Distortion, were two magnificent group dance and band events that adorned the two evenings. Throughout the festival, it was enticing to see a record number of participants this year. Finally the three day extravaganza culminated with a celebration that matched the hard work and toil that was put in to organize it. It was indeed an extraordinary endeavor.
