these days are becoming increasingly unsafe for girls as well as boys. Sexual
harassment is a grave issue that needs to be taken up and talked about and the
NSS unit of SIES GST has done just that. And so, a seminar on sexual harassment
was organized on 5th of August 2014.
The seminar was conducted by Miss
Elsa D'Silva, who is the Vice President- Network Planning and Charters at
Kingfisher Airlines and also the co-founder a site called Safecity. Safecity (www.safecity.in) which was one of her initiatives for the
safety of women by tracking incidences of sexual harassment reported by its
victims or witnesses. People can use this site to inform themselves which areas
in a city are safe and to what extent. The seminar began with each participant
answering 3 questions: “What makes you feel safe?”, “What makes you feel
unsafe?” and “What do you do to feel safe?” Then the students were taught about
the different types of sexual harassment and that people should not take
it lightly and raise their voice against it.
All people who were present at the
seminar had an open minded interaction with each other on this topic. The
seminar saw a tremendous response from all the people of GST who actively
participated in the interactive and informative session.
