This year the literary
club of SIESGST came forward with the novel notion of organising a literary
festival named Gravitas. The festival consisted of various events including
debates, elocution, group discussions, poetry, essay and story writing, and quiz.
The festival was held on the 20th and 21st of September.
The first day of the fest kicked off with the elocution competition. It was organised by Shreedevi Kulkarni and I, and were deeply humbled by the overwhelming response. The event was presided by two stellar judges; Mrs. Neena Jacob from SIESGST and Mrs. Sujatha Rao from SIESCOMS. A total of 26 participants attended the competition and wowed the audience with their speeches. The first round was normal speech round where participants were allowed to prepare a 3 minutes speech on any topic that caught their fancy. The response was staggering with topics ranging from women's rights to the plight of hawkers and cultural heritage of our nation. Ten contestants were selected to move forward to the second round. The second round consisted of a PPT round, where topics were already decided and the contestants had to choose from a bowl of chits. The slides were then being displayed, containing facts arranged in a random order. The challenge was to arrange them, add a unique point and make a coherent statement. The challenge was well received and among them the best performers were Rebecca Rebello, who went on to snatch the first prize, and Dharti Shethiya who was the runner up.
It was indeed an eventful day and it makes one swell with pride at having such shining peers. It is a humble wish that such festivals continue to happen for years to come and the student body is benefited. So until next year...
