Navi Mumbai: International conference for green computing technology was held for the very first time at SIES GST in collaboration with ONGC, on the 5th and 6th of September 2013.

Green Computing and technology is a initiative towards applying technology for environment friendly cost effective use of power and production
It was a two day event which comprised of 5 sessions of technical paper presentations and two sessions of panel discussions along with talks and interesting case studies.

On the first day the event began with an inauguration speech by Dr. G.D. Yadav (Vice Chancellor, ICT, Mumbai) who gave a basic idea about the conference and the significance of Green Computing Technology.

After that they started with the technical paper presentation, the first session consisted of Green Technology wherein the topics covered were Environmental Push For Green – The Microbial Approach, Effect Of Going Green On Stock Prices: A Study On BSE-GREENEX, Impact Of Virtual World On Environment, Green Power Generation In Mobile Phones And Laptops, Non Conventional Sources Of Energy- Applications Of Solar Energy In Architectural Buildings.

The second session consisted of Electronics and Communication, topics covered were Energy Efficient Dynamic Multicluster Routing Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Network, Secure Schematic Model For Verifying Encrypted Image Using Invariant Hash Function, Radiometric Normalization Of Satellite Images Using Ordinal Conversion, Hybrid Artificial Neural Network & Hidden Markov Model (ANN/HMM)For Speech And Speaker Recognition, Optimized Route Calculation For Wireless Networks. The technical paper presentation was followed by a panel discussion session on Green Computing, wherein the panellist for discussion were Dr.Prasad Ramnathan, Associate Vice President, Research & Innovation, iGATE Computer Systems, who talked on “Green Computing”, Mr.Gaurav Mardia, Founder & CEO at E-Incarnation Recycling Pvt. Ltd., was given the topic “E-Waste Management”, Mr. Kesavareddy Kasireddy, CEO Niyasys Technologies, who talked about “Green IT.”

The panel discussions were pretty interesting and allowed a lot of time for the audience to propose their questions and clear them.
The first day of the conference ended with a third session of technical paper presentation on Mechanical Engineering, which covered topics like Extraction analysis of knee joint parameters by using CAD based modelling technique, Study of a Parallel Electric Hybrid Three-Wheeled Motor Taxi, Intercreative structural modelling for implementation of green land system, Interpretive Structural Modelling for Implementation of Integrated Green-Lean System.

The basic concept of these sessions disclosed the idea of the use of Green Computing technology in various branches of engineering.

The second day of the conference started with a panel discussion on Green Technology, the panellist included, Dr. Swanand Patil, Senior Research Scientist, Reliance Industries Limited who discussed the topic" Nanotechnology in Photovoltaic" Mr. Romesh Kachroo, Partner(Promoter) Cosmotelecom talked on " Cell Tower Radiations" Dr. Balu Uphade, Dy GM- Business Innovation, Dow Chemical International Pvt. Ltd discussed about  " Nanomaterials (as a part of Nanotechnology) & Green Chemistry", Dr. Rangprasad, Director, SIES School of Packaging talked about  "Go Green Strategies ", Ms. Parul Kumtha, Universal Design Architect at Disabled Friendly Infrastructure Project of Able India Foundation was given the topic “Green Building”, Mr. Prof. C.S.Purushothaman, Director – Crest Packaging Private Limited, Director - Packaging Professionals Group, " Session Chair".
After the panel discussion there was an Invited talk on Energy efficiency in Processors by Mr. Harinarayanan Seshadri (Platform Architect, Intel Ultra Mobile Group) who gave a detailed description about energy saving techniques and various methods being implemented at present to do the same.

The speech was followed by two sessions of technical paper presentation, the fourth session was based on Green Computing covering the topics Impact of Algorithms on green computing, Green Electronics Environmental push for green in Medical Device Industry, Solid Waste management on dumping ground in Mumbai region, Characterization and mesomorphic behaviour of liquid crystals, Utilization Of Waste materials in Construction Activities.
Whereas the fifth and the final session of technical paper presentation was
on  Computer Engineering / Information Technology, which covered the topics on Cloud computing which are Efficient use of Cloud-based Platforms to develop CRM Applications, High performance Computing: Grid Computing and Cloud Computing for Green ICT, Analysis of Browser Defenses Against XSS Attack Vectors, Reduction of Power Consumption at BTS using Fuzzy based Hierarchical System and Cloud Simulation Tools.

The highlight of conference was the Case Study on Cloud Computing by Dr. Deven Shah (Principal-Terna College of Engineering), which was the most interesting and audience’s attention grabbing event. People gave a very positive response on the topic and was received well by the teachers attending the conference as well, as it included an interactive session with the interested audience and a discussion about the same.

The conference ended with a valedictory function wherein the speech was given by the Chief Guest  Dr. Amit Chatterjee Vice President, Research & Development Ashapura Group of Industries.

Thus the first ever International Conference on Green Computing technology held  at SIES GST, was a grand event which was very well received and acknowledged by teachers and students from various other institutes, providing a detailed and a vast explanation and discussion on Green Computing Technology, proving this event to be a success.
