Navi Mumbai: September
20th, 2013 will be etched in the minds of all those who had the privilege of
being a part of SIESGST's inter collegiate quiz competition Matrix.
Exclusively for the first year students, Matrix is a part of the tech-fest
Cognition but has carved its own identity since its inception. 87 teams from
colleges across the city participated in this competition.

The students
had to form a group of three to participate in Matrix which comprised of four rounds with questions based on Physics, Chemistry, Maths and General Knowledge learnt for
competitive exams. At 1030, the first round held online had each student of the group individually attempting 20 questions of Physics, Chemistry or Maths (as previously decided by their
team) in the IT labs of the college which lasted for 15 minutes each. After the
evaluation of this round, the top 40 teams were selected for the next round.
The
teams were seated in classrooms 301-304 where after displaying the results they
had to attempt the second round (written test) with jumbled PCM questions where
their team work and dexterity was tested. With 30 MCQ questions to answer in 30
minutes, the teams could be seen racking their brains away.

The third round (library round) was the most innovative of all where the top 10 out of
the 40 teams were tested for their presence of mind. Each of the teams were
given chits to choose from on which a question and two rack numbers were written.
The students had to search for the answer from the books in the library
belonging to those rack numbers and give it to their assigned volunteer in room
201 who would time them. The top three teams who would qualify would be the ones to
bring the answer in the shortest time possible.

The
final round (auditorium round) was held at 1600 in the SIESGST Auditorium
amidst the Principal, faculties of First Year, top 20 teams and the finalists.
Each of the teams were provided with a buzzer and were subjected to 15 rapid
fire questions. Occasional questions to the audience eased the anxiousness of
the finalists and helped some win goodies. While the evaluation of results
were being carried out the Principal, Dr. Alka Mahajan, addressed the crowd and
expressed her pride in witnessing Matrix grow from strength to strength.
The
results put a smile on everyone's faces as SIES bagged the first and third place.
The second place went to SES College, Kharghar who gave a tough competition to all
the other teams. SIESGST bagged the Best College trophy which was calculated
according to the averages of all the teams' scores of all colleges. The second
runners-up were awarded with Rs. 1500 and certificates, the first runners up were
awarded with Rs. 3000, a trophy, three books (sponsored by the library) and
certificates while the winners were awarded with Rs. 6000, a trophy, three books and
certificates by Principal madam. The top 20 teams were awarded with certificates
too.
