What's the first
thing that comes to your mind when you utter the above words? An Encyclopedia of technology? That precisely was the theme of the event held at SIES GST by
IEEE. Tech-O-Pedia is an inter collegiate technical debate conducted by the
IEEE student chapter.
This event is a technical extravaganza where the students
are given a chance to exhibit their literary and technical skills on a single
platform. The event spanned for two days and was held in the auditorium.
Tech-O-Pedia was an amalgamation of interesting twists and turns which
intrigued the participants and the judges. En route a second event was also
conducted viz. the Tech Quiz.

Shreya Kumar and
Anuradha Iyer welcomed the crowd with the keynote and opened the event. Shreya
went ahead to introduce the judges for the event. Mr Varadarajan who was a
corporate trainer, researcher and educator from the esteemed IIT-B was the
first judge. Mrs. Ramya George, a teacher at SIES GST and a professional HRM and
soft skills lecturer was the second judge of the day. Mrs. Preetee Kuperkar, the
IEEE counsellor overlooked the event. The lamp was lit by the judges and thus
began a technical journey of words.
All the teams were
given topics to prepare on and were divided into groups such that two teams
faced off against each other simultaneously. After all teams were done, the
first round of Tech Quiz was announced and all the participants were requested
to assemble in the auditorium.

Woman in
Engineering is a new section under IEEE SIES GST which deals with empowerment,
personality enhancement and encourages women to take engineering as their
field. Neelima Pakina and Anbir Kaur enlightened the crowd about WIE with a
small presentation. A competition was then held for the girls in the auditorium.
Then began round 1
of Tech Quiz. A MCQ paper was passed to all participants. They were told to
finish the questions in the shortest time possible. 32 teams participated in
round 1.
As Tech Quiz came to an end, the result of the round 1 of debate was declared and 12 teams went on to the next round. This went on for a while. When the debate came to an end, the result of round 1 of Tech Quiz was announced and the respective teams went to round 2. Round 2 of Tech Quiz combined technical knowledge and literary skills of the participant. A clue was given and they had to guess the word. The last letter of the former clue would by the first letter of the latter. Time played a crucial role in this round.

The results for
both events were announced and short listed contestants were called for the
finals on the forthcoming day. Thus ended day one of the event.
Day 2:
Day 2 began on a similar note as day 1 with the hosts welcoming the judges. Since Mrs. Ramya wasn't available for the second day, Mrs.Anula Millindar was the judge of the day. Mrs. Anula is an engineer by profession having completed her B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics engineering from nothing less than the prestigious IIT-M. She is currently Chief Aircraft Engineer in base maintenance for Air India. Thus began the technical symphony on day two with the lighting of the lamp by the judges.
In this round, the teams were divided and told to
write on a specific topic. Later a random team was called ahead to deliver the
speech to the audience and were questioned by the judges.

As this came to
end, the semi-final of the Tech Quiz began. The contestants had to play a game
of nuts and crosses to proceed to the finals. This round was a pictographic and
video round. Four teams were selected for the finals. The final round of the
debate was a conventional one. Four teams battled out in vigour for the prize.
With the debate coming
to an end, the final round of the Tech Quiz began. This was a buzzer round. +10
for every correct answer and -5 for every passed or wrong answer. A tough
competition began but in the end only one team could win. Chaitanya Ramji and
Emmanuel Francis from SIES Graduate School of Technology won the Tech Quiz.

A surprise group
discussion was held which included the judges and all the participants. The
topic was "Has Apple lost its Midas touch after the demise of Steve Jobs?"
Some students spoke extremely well.
Thus came to an end
an extravaganza of literature and technology. A vote of thanks was given with
the judges sharing their words of wisdom, concluding Tech-O-Pedia '13.
